The agenda for the City Council Meeting tomorrow night includes a review of the largest budget ever for the City of Nauvoo. Proposed spending tops $2 Million Dollars! That’s $2,000 for every man, woman and child in Nauvoo. Compared to the expenses from 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 (and our calculated 2017 based on documents received from the City which is sure to increase in the final), it’s apparent spending needs to be reviewed in a very detailed way. As derived from the published Treasurer’s Report, the expenses from 2013 have increased dramatically, while roads, sidewalks, and other infrastructure has continued to decline. More spending is obviously not working, smarter spending is needed.
The finance committee meeting, per the City’s annual schedule, will be held at 4:30pm at City Hall on May 8th. There was no agenda posted 48 hours prior to the meeting, but we expect it will be discussed there, as well as at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday Night (May 9th). Review the proposed budget and make your comments known. And visit openNAUVOO.org to review the meeting if you’re unable to attend. Based on previous City Council Meetings, we are less than hopeful that citizen input will be considered, but be there, or send your comments!
